The Counseling Ministry at Naperville Presbyterian Church provides education on topics such as
grieving, compassionate communications and peacemaking; short term
counseling on specific areas of concern; consultation with growth
group and ministry leaders; identification and coordination of
related needs and resources within NPC; and assessment and referral
to appropriate resources for those in distress. Assessments
generally vary from one to three sessions. The outcomes of an
assessment may include:
- A positive resolution of the issue
- Referrals to medical or psychiatric evaluation and treatment
- Referral to professional Christian counseling
- Stephen Ministry support
- Participation in a growth group or Adult Education class
- A discussion with a pastor, elder, or deacon
- A mentoring relationship with a mature Christian from the
congregation
- Church or community recovery and support groups
- Recommended books or tapes
